I had the opportunity  a couple weekends ago to photograph another beautiful creative in Kansas City. One of the great perks to be in this amazing creative community is swapping skills and sessions. I mean otherwise professional photographers would never have photos of themselves or of their families with them in it.

It's a crazy surreal feeling though being in front of the camera when you are a photographer. The process of feeling comfortable before a photo session and  yourself in the different poses are all things I ask my clients to just get; but honestly it's a lot harder than it seems. Chris and I are having our own session in a couple weekends and I'm already stressing about what to wear, my hair cut and dumb things like how my closet is organized (as if the whole session will be featuring the closet.)

Rebecca reached out to me a while back and we wanted to do something relaxed, candid and personal for her new headshots. She sent me her website bio and I immediately thought an in home session would be the only way to meet her needs. I wanted her to feel comfortable and relaxed all throughout her session because that's in my experience the best way to get her true personality to shine through in her photos.  I wanted to feature her favorite spots in her home with the things that made her feel natural, her camera, coffee cup and the best of all her little son.

So of course in my family photographer style we included him in about 60% of the session (it looks like more here because I just couldn't get enough, though I promise she got a lot more head shot options) What better way to reflect a stay at home mom/ photographer than to include the little boy her world revolves around (am I right) and I also just can't get enough of that relationship vibe throughout. So my apology for the pseudo mommy and me session mixed with head shots but I just couldn't help myself, their connection is too beautiful.
