The Carter Family: Summer in the Backyard | Hanna Hill Photography | Kansas City, MO

Sometimes you meet a person and they just stick in your mind. I met Shannon (momma of this crazy bunch) while shooting a birth earlier this year. She is an incredible doula, mom and personality. She had mentioned her family of 5 extroverted little ones and her awesome husband who she just couldn't be more thankful for.

I had always wanted to capture the beautiful chaos that comes from a big family. I am one of 6 so the joy and stress and chaos was a very familiar concept. I wanted to document those moments of joy and collision that siblings bring. And I wanted to capture the sweet moments of Summer, being home with everyone having to get your energy out by jumping on a trampoline or running in the yard. It takes me back and I just adore the energy and celebration of life that the Carter family has. they are free of expectations or intense limits. The kids are creative and loud and chaotic together. They were are similar to buzzing electrons around their parents feeding off the energy, attention and love they give off. I just love being able to capture the real emotions, moments and fierceness of everyday life. This is just a small glimpse into what a day is like for the Carter family, its authentic and celebratory. 

Capturing these Summer memories is priceless. This is one of those beautiful seasons of life you will always remember and having photos of the joy and family chaos are irreplaceable.
