It's been a crazy year for my best friend Kimmy. She and I share a birthday and have tried over the last years to celebrate together in some form each year. Right around our 25th birthday last November we found out she was expecting. It was truly a crazy emotional time. It was not the way she would have planned it but none the less this year of knowing Luke was on his way changed everyone she met.
With my whole heart I wanted to be there by her side to capture the birth of this little boy. He had meant so much to me, even from the second we knew he existed. But Luke had a different plan. I was flying down for a week a little before the due date till a little after. You'd think I would know how completely unpredictable birth is by now but still I wanted so bad to be able to fly there and plan it out. Of course he decided to come the night before I was meant to be there, no flights available to change it and while I threw around the idea of driving all night, my husband told me that was crazy. So I showed up right before he had his second day in the hospital and stayed with them for their second sleepless night and got to cuddle him on and off every couple hours so Kimmy could get some rest. The next morning I woke up and the sun came into the room with so much life. I seriously just had to capture this precious morning.
These moments were about capturing motherhood and that indescribable bond being formed. They were about seeing Kimmy change into a mom before my eyes. They were about seeing Luke as a human not just a thing in my imagination but actually here with a personality and adorable face. I wanted to remember the peace of that morning with him just laying in his basinet looking directly at me and the way Kimmy looked at him like she saw a glimpse at her life in a whole new and beautiful way.
I'm so thankful I was allowed to enter this sacred space and capture this beautiful hour there in the hospital. Before they even went home and started life. The fresh 48 session captures that small window of time that without a few photos might have been forgotten.
