Bras, Breastfeeding and My Changing Boobs!
Finding the right bra for your changing body!
There is nothing like pregnancy and breastfeeding to completely change your body and boobs. When I was pregnant with Jude I remember the first trimester being weeks of nausea and swollen breasts that felt uncomfortable in every bra I owned. I was the "go with the flow” type when it came to all the body changes I was experiencing and went way too long with the uncomfortable wire and padded bras thinking that’s just “how it is” then when I gave birth to Jude I had bought maybe 2 nursing bras which makes me laugh out loud at how unprepared I was for this very important part of the breastfeeding journey. Within hours those two bras were soaked with milk or spit up and I needed more. I learned during that time that my body was changing FAST and I honestly didn’t have the knowledge or bra to keep up. I ended up lost in postpartum land with about 10 tee-shirt bras and DD+ cup milk-filled boobs. I wore those unsupportive teeshirt bras for way longer than I care to admit and in all reality, I knew I looked a bit too “comfy” but I had lost touch with my boobs and bra size altogether.
Finally, I realized my breastfeeding was leveling out and that I should probably invest in some new bras that fit my post-baby breasts. But I honestly had no idea where to start, my breasts were now bigger, and heavier and I still was breastfeeding occasionally so I needed to have some access.
That’s when I found Cake Maternity.
I connected instantly with this brand because of their holistic approach to supporting families throughout pregnancy and breastfeeding. They spoke with wisdom and knowledge all about the many changes our breasts go through from each trimester and into the breastfeeding months/years. More than anything I wish I had found them sooner! I would have saved myself months of discomfort and searching because they really take the time to offer different bras for the different changes your body will endure. From getting bigger in early pregnancy to growing milk ducts and they even have some great options for wearing during your birth! I am so thankful I have them now for this second pregnancy!
I recently got these two amazing bras from them. I wanted to find something supportive, and comfortable but that could journey with me through the ups and downs of pregnancy, breastfeeding, postpartum, and then pregnancy AGAIN! While I am still breastfeeding Jude it’s only a few times a day so my life is not tied to the need for accessibility but I love having that feature with both of these bras as well because I know once this new baby comes I will need the flexible straps and nursing friendly options. The Tim Tams Nursing Bra has the lace and wide back strap to help me feel supported completely while letting me have a little fun which most large boob bras miss the mark on. The Croissant T-shirt Nursing Bra is made of the softest material but still has the underwire to keep my boobs from sagging into oblivion. I used to think padding was going to be the smartest way to get them to stay perky but that usually just ended up feeling like I was always being pushed out of my bras. The padding really added to my discomfort during pregnancy so this time around I love having the soft material and wire support without feeling constrained. Both of these full-coverage bras feel like the perfect fit for my body and my ever-changing boobs. I’ve been wearing them almost non-stop for the last months and I’ll probably be purchasing a few more soon because I really trust Cake Maternity and love the way these fit.
